November Featured Artist: Rosslynn Weavers

November’s Featured Artist is 11-year old Rosslynn Weavers, an enthusiastic and talented emerging artist and creator from Brantford.

Rosslynn has loved arts and crafts since she was young enough to hold a crayon. Although painting on canvas is her favourite, she also enjoys painting on pottery and clay, and loves all arts and crafts. What she loves most about painting is the rhythm she gets into when she is focused on creating, and loves how flexible painting is. “I like how easy it is to fix or work with mistakes,” she notes.

One of her favourite painters is Pablo Picasso, who she studied in grade 4. Her teachers have helped to guide her and develop her craft, and continually teach her new techniques in visual arts as well as music. She has also been inspired by Jenny Sikma through the Shellard Lane Neighbourhood Association. Jenny taught her new art techniques that she had never thought of before, giving her the opportunity to be even more creative with her projects.

Rosslynn’s advice as a young artist is applicable to all ages: “Go with your gut!” Trusting your instincts and focusing on what makes you happy is always the best path to take when improving your creating skills.

If you have your own young artist in your family, consider nurturing their interest by enrolling them in many of the incredible classes and workshops offered locally. Each season, Glenhyrst Art Gallery of Brant (20 Ava Road, Brantford) offers high-quality visual arts classes and camps for children of all ages. March Break and Summer Camps are very popular at Glenhyrst and tend to sell out quickly, so make sure you are following Glenhyrst on Facebook or check out their website for more details.

Young artists may also wish to visit Crock-a-Doodle in Brantford (299 Wayne Gretzky Parkway) where they can enjoy the fun of pottery painting in their bright and cheerful studio. Their drop-in format is great for creators of all ages, and they also offer birthday parties, ladies nights, and teambuilding and corporate events.
