Unleash your creativity in the New Year!

Unleash your creativity in the New Year!

By: Trish Barsby

Do you have a desire to bring out your creative side but don’t know where to start? Look no further than the Brantford Public Library (Main Branch) Makerspace and Digital Media Lab, where all of the help and tools are at your disposal to do just that.

The MakerSpace area allows people of all ages to explore and create projects from 3D printing to button making, while the Digital Media Lab has you covered for creating professional videos, music and podcasts with their expansive digital media lab equipment and software.

MakerSpace services provided at the main branch include 3D printing, button making, craft and fitness tools, digital conversion, and virtual reality. You can also take home coding, robotics and technology kits with a valid library card. If you’re looking to use 3D printing or virtual reality, a certification course is required to be completed first. This can be done through the library and is free of charge.

Staff members are available to provide help during your time there; however you can also book a 30 minute one-on-one session to maximize your skills. The Makerspace also offers all ages events, including Coding and 3D Design workshops. You can find these upcoming events on the Brantford Public Library website.

The Digital Media Lab can be booked in two-hour time slots online or by phone. The digital lab provides access to technology and software such as iMac computers, a green screen, portable lighting, and high definition cameras. This can allow you to create professional quality photos, videos, and sound editing.

Whether you’re just starting out and wanting to learn the basics of a new device, or looking to create a professional music video, grab your library card and head down to the Brantford Public Library today! If you are currently not a library card holder, not to worry, as library cards are free of charge for Brantford residents.
