Stay connected with your community

Although Brantford has moved into Stage 3 of reopening, residents are instructed to remain vigilant and continue to practice physical distancing. As we continue to distance ourselves from one another, with many choosing to remain at home, it can be difficult to feel connected to friends and loved ones. Here are a few suggestions for safely keeping yourself and your community connected during this stressful time.

Offer your neighbours a helping hand

Wondering where you can volunteer to help your neighbours during COVID-19? Reach out to older adults in your neighbourhood, consider contacting your local Neighbourhood Association, check out the GIGIT Marketplace Volunteer Portal, or visit the local Caremongering Brantford Facebook group.

Join a virtual book club

Did you know that the Brantford Public Library and Eagle Place Community Association co-host virtual book clubs every month? Book club titles are available in eBook or audiobook format to library cardholders on demand with no waitlists. On August 27 at 7 p.m. the group will be meeting virtually to discuss Furious Hours by Casey Cep.

Connect with other older adults

Helping older adults stay connected while physically distancing is now more important than ever. Healthy Aging Without Walls is a free interactive telephone-based program that connects older adults with others from the comfort of their own home. Launched by the City of Brantford in partnership with the Older Adult Centres' Association of Ontario and sponsored by the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility, older adults in Brantford can call in to participate in trivia, health and wellness seminars, or discussion groups. This is a great opportunity to learn something new and make meaningful friendships.
