Steve Assel is the Brant News TCO Community Champion for September 11, 2014.
Steve has always enjoyed being part of a team. He grew up playing baseball and basketball and developed a love of working with people and helping people improve their physical performance.
Steve moved to Brantford in 2005 and soon began volunteering with the Cardiac Rehab program at Brantford General Hospital. Part of his volunteering included leading patients through a warm up and using bands to increase their strength.
Steve also assisted in outpatient physio as a Kinesiologist, demonstrating and assisting patients with rehab exercises. He spent some time working at the Willett Hospital in Paris, leading group programs for senior fitness and mobility.
Steve is a Golf North member and previously led a golf fitness program to assist in preparation for hitting the greens. Steve is also a personal trainer at the Athletic Club and provides tailored programs to improve function, fitness and mobility. Many of his clients are post rehab and he has worked with people after motor vehicle accidents to increase mobility and quality of life.
Steve’s experience also includes working with people with multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and acquired brain injuries.
