Brantford Gymnastics Academy Tumbling and Training

The Brantford Gymnastics Academy welcomes athletes to somersault, balance and vault to their goals as they experience this state of the art facility in Brantford’s north end. A facility that trains elite athletes, as well as offering recreational classes, will make everyone feel welcomed and encouraged to take their skills to the next level.

In 1997, Brantford Gymnastics Academy (BGA) opened its doors and was the city’s first gymnastics club. Serving the communities of Brantford, Ancaster, Caledonia, Paris, St. George and Simcoe, Owner and Head Coach Iudita Brumaru has been guiding young athletes to the height of their potential. Located at 487 Park Rd. N. in Brantford, BGA runs classes for children from age one and a half on up. Recreational classes are scheduled throughout the year in Fall, Spring and Summer sessions. Other recreational opportunities include summer camps and birthday parties. Athletes in BGA’s competitive programs train year round in both Women’s Artistic and Aerobic disciplines.

In 2016, a devastating fire destroyed the facility, but with incredible resiliency and dedication, the new state of the art facility was reopened in November of 2017 and was able to offer so much more to their members.

The facility has a main gym area of 10,000 square feet that provides two full Olympic-sized floors with equipment and 3,000 for office and an upper level viewing area.

In the last 20 years the team at BGA has produced one hundred and eight provincial and national medalists. Eight of those have topped the national podium winning gold. This impressive line-up of champions has earned the club High Performance status, a designation given to clubs who produce athletes who medal at the national level.

While the future of competitions is somewhat uncertain, BGA successfully hosted the 2020 Aerobic Cup and Invitational at their facility in February 2020, before COVID-19 shut down inter-league play. This competition hosted sixty athletes from around Ontario including eight local BGA team members.

Since initial shut-downs, BGA has been able to successfully re-open following Government of Ontario timelines and protocols. When visiting their facility you will find distance and directional markers throughout the facility as well as surrounding it. The facility is disinfected daily and high touch areas are cleaned more frequently. Everyone who enters the building is required to wear a facemask that covers their nose and mouth. The exception to this rule is athletes who are training, per government guidelines. You’ll also find hand sanitizer in multiple locations.

“We are one of the lucky small businesses…the support of the members and the community (has) been incredible under this unfortunate, uncertain situation,” says Iudita Brumaru.

Registration is now open for Brantford Gymnastics Academy’s spring session, which begins February 1, 2021. Call the club during their office hours at 519-304-7655 or email
