Brant Athletic Therapy is a new clinic owned and operated by Mike Schouten, a 29-year-old Brantford native. Brant Athletic Therapy is located at 241 Dunsdon Street in Brantford and opened for business April 17, 2017.
The clinic is the first athletic therapy based clinic in the city; all other local therapy clinics are physiotherapy-based clinics with only one offering athletic therapy services. Services will include musculoskeletal injury assessment and rehabilitation, using evidence-based Athletic Therapy.
Mike Schouten has deep roots in the Brantford sport community. He grew up in Brantford alongside his two older brothers, all of whom were and still are heavily involved in sports. Schouten has a Bachelors of Applied Health Science (Athletic Therapy) from Sheridan College and a Bachelors of Kinesiology from Brock University. He is a Registered Kinesiologist with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario and is a Certified Athletic Therapist with the Canadian Athletic Therapist Association. Mike has a long-standing reputation in the sport community as trainer for the Brantford Harlequins as well as previous experience working with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
It has been a long-time goal of Schouten’s to open his own clinic in Brantford. Schouten adds, “I am so excited to start putting in the work to help individuals recover from their injuries. If you want to be actively involved in your recovery and are enthusiastic about getting better, this is the place for you.”
The clinic is approximately 500 square feet in total and consists of a treatment area and a space to conduct rehabilitative exercises. There is also additional space for a small office and reception area.
