Preserving Our HERitage: History From the Womyn’s Perspective

The 11th Annual Walter Gretzky Street Hockey Tournament

Friday, June 2 to Sunday, June 4, 2017

Steve Brown Sports Complex, 20 Edge St., Brantford

This year will mark the 11th Annual Walter Gretzky Street Hockey Tournament with teams coming from across Ontario and the United States. In 2010, this “great” tournament was recognized and established a Guinness World Record for the largest Street Hockey Tournament in the world with 205 teams and over 2,096 participants involved. Be one of 250 teams playing in 2017 on 20 outdoor rinks, officiated by certified referees and linesmen from BHI. Come see legendary filmmaker, Kevin Smith, on Sunday!

Nova Vita Heels to Heal Walk

The 7th Annual Heels to Heal Walk is in support of the over 750 women, men, non-binary individuals and children that Nova Vita serves every year. Join us on Sunday, June 4, 2017 in Brantford’s Harmony Square and stand tall in your red heels or your red shoes against domestic violence. This is Nova Vita’s largest event of the year, both in raising awareness and in financial support. This year, Nova Vita’s goal is to raise $50,000 and register 150 walkers in honour of Canada’s 150th birthday.

The Personal Computer Museum is Brantford’s first computer museum, and unique in all of Southwestern Ontario. The museum has over 50 interactive computer displays from over 1,000 computers in total. The museums holds over 25,000 artifacts with approximately 5,000 in the building at any given time. It is the largest known collection of computers in Canada, the largest known collection of video games in Canada, and the largest known collection of CED video discs in the world.

The Brantford Celebrates 150 Tour continues with a free concert at the historic Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts featuring David Wilcox. Access to this concert is completely FREE by showing us what Ontario means to you! All you have to do is submit a photo to our contest of your favourite Ontario memory with family or friends and include a 50 to 100 word explanation. The submissions will be included in the Made in Ontario Exhibition at Brantford’s Ontario Day 150 Celebration on Friday, June 30 and Brantford’s Canada Day 150 Celebation on Saturday, July 1.

Brantford Pride is an organization consisting of community members committed to promoting peace, diversity and equality for LGBTQ+ population in Brantford and the County of Brant.  Brantford Pride Week has grown, continuing to gain support. Last year (2016) was Brantford Pride’s largest turnout since it started 6 years ago. Over 200 people attended the flag raising ceremony at City Hall, and 50+ more people participated in the Pride walk. Join the celebration on June 17th!

For one night only, the beautiful musical drama Ruth will be presented by acclaimed performing company Arcady. Ruth is a moving story of immigration and welcoming others into your homeland. The drama follows the life of Ruth, an independent, strong, and hopeful woman as she searches for a better life for herself and her people. Ruth was written in 1996 by Ronald Beckett to the words of Brantford librettist Roger Bayley. This special production will feature talented international emerging artists chosen from around the world. The international cast will be supported by Arcady’s professional chorus, orchestra, and Academy of Ballet Classique.
