Celebrate the Bell Summer Theatre Festival 10th Anniversary

Dust off those lawn chairs in your garage, and get ready for another incredible season of the Bell Summer Theatre Festival. In its 10th year, this partnership between Brant Theatre Workshops (BTW) and the Bell Homestead National Historic Site is the city’s only outdoor theatre festival. Held on the historic 1870s verandah of the former home of Alexander Graham Bell, this festival kicks off on July 1, 2017.

The Bell Summer Theatre Festival is a Brantford experience like no other; it offers visitors the opportunity to visit this historic home, while enjoying live theatre that the Bell family loved. All of the performances are educational, plus admission is pay-what-you-can.

The Festival starts on July 1, 2017 with Snow White and Not The Usual Dwarves by Paul Amato and directed by Victoria Hudson-Muir. This hilarious version of Disney’s original tale is perfect for audiences of all ages. Next in the lineup is Merchant of Venice, a Shakespearean piece produced as a tribute to Brant Theatre Workshops’ first play they produced as part of the Festival ten years ago.

Wrapping up the festival is Walk in My Mocs, written by BTW’s own Native collective and directed by Makelitv Emarthle. This play looks at the topic of missing Indigenous women through Native and Settler eyes when two men switch bodies. Walk in My Mocs will also travel to the Dajoh Youth and Elder Centre and Woodland Cultural Centre in late August and early September if you miss it as part of the Festival.

Bring your lawn chairs, a blanket, and even a picnic basket to enjoy a relaxing night out with your friends and family. If you are interested in more information about any of the performances, contact Brant Theatre Workshops at info@branttheatre.com or 519-761-0781.
