Sanderson Centre’s Stirring, Stunning, Surprising New Season

The Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts has announced their 2017-18 season, and tickets are on sale now!

Building on the success of the 2016-17 season, the new season kicks off on Sunday, October 8 with a concert by multi-platinum award-winning artist Jann Arden. Soon after, on Thursday, October 12, the Barenaked Ladies hit the stage for their Canada 1 Five 0 Tour. Tickets for this event start at $60, and there are Gold and Silver VIP packages available as well. Buffy Saint-Marie returns to the stage on November 12, Canadian music icon Tom Cochrane and Red Rider will perform on March 15, and classic rock icon Kim Mitchell will perform his classics on April 4.

This new season also includes a number of family events, including: Canada’s Ballet Jörgen The Nutcracker (December 10); Scrooge’s magical, musical and mysterious Christmas Carol (December 16); and, Underwater Bubble Show (December 30), where millions of bubbles of all shapes and colours, foam waves, and other surprises will immediately swallow you and transport you into this universe of joy and freedom.

SC Johnson’s support of the Sanderson Centre continues, as they present Fatty Legs (November 7 and 8) – a show that uses music, dance, and narration to tell the story of one little girl’s experience in “Indian” Residential School; Canada’s Ballet Jörgen The Nutcracker (December 10); Fred Penner (February 25); and, Underwater Bubble Show (December 30), where millions of bubbles of all shapes and colours, foam waves, and other surprises will immediately swallow you and transport you into this universe of joy and freedom. Families may also want to start a new tradition with Scrooge’s magical, musical and mysterious Christmas Carol (December 16)

The Classic Albums Live series – always a packed house at the Sanderson – will feature Rush – 2112 (November 9), Pink Floyd – The Wall (December 8), Fleetwood Mac – Rumors (February 10), and Led Zeppelin 1 (May 17).

Building on the success of the series, the Sanderson Centre will continue to offer smaller performances and special events in their lobby. The first show of the season is Ali Hassan – Muslim Interrupted (October 3), a solo stand-up comedy show that delivers a hilarious antidote to our increasingly troubled global climate. The lobby will also host the long-awaited rescheduled Fortune Ones (November 24), The Fugitives (January 27), and an evening of puppetry for adults called My Big Fat German Puppet Show and The Left Hand of Frank (February 7), by former Jim Henson’s Muppets puppeteer Frank Meschkuliet.

This year’s Artists in Conversation Series in the lobby will give audiences the opportunity to learn about some of their favourite artists in a more intimate environment. Sharon & Bram – Skinnamarink (November 21), Rick Emmett – Rocks On (January 24), and Debra Brown – The Creative Process Through My Own Eyes (April 18) will all be part of this series. Tickets for the Artists in Conversation Series are $25 each, or you can buy tickets for the entire series for $60.

Consider becoming a Centre Stage Patron this season. If you purchase tickets to at least four Sanderson Centre Presents shows, you will receive 15% off all series tickets all season long, and all service fees are waived. You’ll also receive advance access to purchase tickets before they go on sale to the public. Any of the events that display a Sanderson Centre Presents seal are part of this program.
