Brantford BURST 2017 is a 5K explosion of colour and fun. Join GoSkip.org and hundreds of runners at the starting gate behind the Civic Centre on Sunday, September 10, 2017. The untimed colour fun run for runners of all ages and abilities starts at 11:00 a.m. The scenic course follows the Grand River, looping at Birkett Lane and returning back to the Civic Centre parking lot.
Brantford BURST 2017 is in support of SKIP (Seniors and Kids Intergenerational Programs.) SKIP is a registered non-profit organization. Through class trips to senior care facilities, students learn valuable life skills and gain understanding and compassion for seniors. Seniors appreciate the companionship and share their stories of life. Together they learn from each other and form unique and rewarding friendships. SKIP is an important learning vehicle for young students and instills caring, compassion, understanding and respect for the elderly. Nursing Home Managers report that SKIP visits put a smile on the face of residents and gives them purpose, fellowship and activity. Rob Smith, SKIP board member, explains, “Seniors and Kids Intergenerations Programs just celebrated our 10 year anniversary. When we started the program, there wasn’t a lot of awareness about intergenerational programming. We have built a great deal of awareness locally and our programs have attracted interest from like-minded groups across North America and around the world.”
Many surrounding cities have successfully implemented colour fun runs in their communities, but this will be Brantford’s first and coincides nicely with the end of Orientation Week for Laurier students. Smiling volunteers operate colour stations along the course with one mission…to immerse you in a cloud of colourful powder! Rest assured, the colour comes out and The Brantford Fire Department will be at the finish line if you wish to be hosed down following your run.
Smith promises an incredibly fun day, adding, “our 2017 event starts with entertainment and music to rally the crowd and get everyone pumped for the run. Prior to the run, a young Brantford born comic and emcee Judah Watson will limber-up everyone’s laugh muscles. Judah is a member of a Toronto sketch troupe and a frequent performer at Toronto Yuk Yuks Comedy Club. We’ll stretch the rest of your body with some cardio warm-ups courtesy of Moksha Yoga Brantford and Brantford Fitness. We’ll also have some of Ontario’s favourite food trucks serving their famous dishes.”
Take advantage of the incredibly affordable EARLY BIRD pricing! It’s just $20 for kids and students, $30 for adults and $100 for an adult group of four. Prices go up on July 31st.
