ICHTHYS Theatre and Friendship House of Brant have announced their lineup for the newly branded Left of Centre Kids Festival (LOCKF), which features two pirate themed original productions and a play created by their theatre campers.
The 2017 LOCKF takes place at Friendship House of Brant (452 Grey Street, Brantford) on Friday, August 25 and Saturday, August 26 at 7:00pm; a matinee performance will be held at 2pm on Sunday, August 27. Your ticket gives you entry to three performances: Lillian’s Dream, Pirate Academy , and Quagmire’s Quandary.
Lilian’s Dream, written and directed by Natalie Reinelt, explores the imaginative world of 11-year old Lilian. Living with her grandfather and confined to a wheelchair, Lilian escapes her reality every night in her dreams. In these dreams, she and her toy friends that are brought to life, go on extraordinary adventures. This particular dream is a musical play, where Lilian and her toys are pirates on a quest to find hidden treasures. Lilian’s Dream was written on behalf of Murky Productions, Sydenham-Heritage United Church, and Whimsical Players.
Next is Pirate Academy, which is written by the children involved in ICHTHYS Theatre’s first Stand Out Kids Scene (SOKS) Drama Camp. The Pirate Academy is a school for kids who need pirate training, says Jessica Hamilton, the camp teacher. “This could be because that is the family business or because it is something they have always dreamed of being.”
The third production is Quagmire’s Quandary, written by TP Strong. This play is a tale of making good choices, friendship, and working together as a team. Two bumbling pirates – Captain Quagmire and Snags – and their parrot go on a treasure hunt through dense jungles and mountain ranges. Along their journey, they encounter obstacles where decisions must be made. Join in to help the Captain and Snags search for the hidden treasure, and meet colourful characters along the way.
