I'll Be Home For...Christmas in Paris!

The Christmas season starts at different times for everyone. For some, especially retail stores, it’s the day after Halloween, others the day after Remembrance Day, and the rest fall somewhere in between mid-November and those who are just trying to get their shopping done before the stores close early on Christmas Eve. Christmas in Paris is a magical two-day event, held in three locations in Paris, and as one of the County of Brant’s signature Marquee events it marks the beginning of the festive season for many. This year, the event will be held on November 11 (9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) and November 12 (9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.).

Charming Paris, coined “Canada’s Prettiest Little Town” is nestled along the banks of the Grand and Nith rivers and warmly welcomes thousands of visitors who are eager to purchase unique, one-of-a-kind, handmade gifts.

This year, the juried show will display the work of 27 local area artists and crafters, all members of Kindred Spirits Artisans of Paris.  Artists work year-round to create new pieces and bring with them a plethora of items for display and still manage to sell-out—so plan your shopping wisely! The artisans unique talents range from creating pottery pieces, various sized quilts, fabric art pieces, felted art, chalk art, mixed media, watercolour, acrylic, and pastel paintings in all shapes and sizes, fused glass, beaded and Swarovski jewellery, gourd art that can sound like “thunder,” soap products and silk scarves, among many other offerings. Many items are themed for the holiday season. A selection of delicious baked goods and preserves is also available and very popular – these sell out fast! This year, visitors will find pinecone fire starters, charcuterie/cheese boards from locally harvested walnut, natural ingredient lip balms and glosses, pouches, brooches and pillows etched in thread, and leather jewellery with rustic overtones.

The three Christmas in Paris locations, where the Kindred Spirits Artisans proudly display their chosen pieces, are traditionally spread throughout the community of Paris. The following three festive locations will be filled to overflowing with the creative work of their talented artists and artisans:

  • Paris Grand Clubhouse Holiday (Paris Grand Country Club, 150 Paris Links Road)
  • A Grand Riverhouse Christmas (Riverhouse, 149 Paris Links Road)
  • Christmas on the Grand (Dominion Telegraph Building, 97 Grand River St. North – 2nd floor, off William St.)

A toonie for admission (paid at any location) grants you admittance to all three locations, while children 12 and under are free. Kindred Spirits Artisans of Paris is an incorporated organization of individuals who share a common creative interest and who work cooperatively to raise the profile of the arts in the local community. Proceeds from this weekend’s admission go to further the arts in Paris, provide bursaries to high school graduates pursuing a degree in the arts and sponsor awards for artists exhibiting at the Paris Fair.

We can’t wait to throw on our cozy sweaters, grab our steaming travel mugs of hot cocoa and peruse the delightful offerings at this year’s Christmas in Paris event. We hope to see you all there!
