“It’s the most wonderful time of the year!” The popular Christmas song originally performed and recorded by Andy Williams always comes to mind this time of year. The Christmas season starts at different times for everyone, but with stores eagerly decorating the first week of November and seasonal activities scheduled all over the city, it’s hard not to get into the holiday spirit. So, grab your steaming travel mug of hot cocoa, throw on your comfiest sweater, and start making your holiday plans with us!
The holiday season kicks off in Six Nations with the annual Six Nations Holiday Craft Tour on November 4, 2017. Visit four locations along the craft bazaar tour and find crafts such as black ash baskets, cornhusk dolls, silver jewelry, moccasins, beaded fancies, and many other wares unique to this area. Locations are as follows:
- Woodland Cultural Centre from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. located at 184 Mohawk St., Brantford.
- Six Nations Community Hall from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. located at 1738 4th Line, Ohsweken

Didn’t make it to Six Nations or haven’t had your craft “fix” yet? Visit Paris, “Canada’s Prettiest Little Town,” on November 11th & 12th for the 26th annual Christmas in Paris craft show. The juried show will display the work of 27 local area artists and crafters, all members of Kindred Spirits Artisans of Paris. This year, visitors will find pinecone fire starters, charcuterie/cheese boards from locally harvested walnut, natural ingredient lip balms and glosses, pouches, brooches and pillows etched in thread, and leather jewelry with rustic overtones. The following three festive locations will be filled to overflowing with the creative work of their talented artists and artisans:
From November 16 to 27 (closed Sundays), Robert Hall Originals will be hosting their annual 12 Days of Christmas Open House at their location on 138 Sugar Maple Rd., in St. George. On November 17, from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., bundle up and head back to Paris for their not-to-be-missed Jingle Bell Night. Enjoy tax-free shopping at participating stores (look for the poster in the shop windows!) in beautiful downtown Paris. If you haven’t visited the Bell Homestead National Historic Site yet, November 18th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. would be a great time to do it! The Bell Homestead Café and its volunteers will offer a plethora of homemade cookies (pick and mix a baker’s dozen!), pies, cakes and squares at the Homestead’s annual Holiday Bake Sale & Tea. Those looking for unique stocking stuffers or gifts will find crafts, jewelry, children’s toys and books, and vintage china and quilts at the museum store known as “The Phone Booth.” While here, enjoy a delightful cup of tea along with samples of the baked items for sale. Visit Glenhyrst Art Gallery of Brant (20 Ava Rd., Brantford) for the annual Brantford Lights at Glenhyrst between December 1, 2017 and January 1, 2018. Come and visit the transformed winter wonderland once or nightly from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and join in this festive Brantford family tradition! Admission granted either through monetary donations for the art gallery or non-perishable food donations for the Brantford Food Bank and the Salvation Army Food Bank. The Kris Kringle Christmas Shopping event is held Saturday, December 2 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for kids ages 6-12. This funtastic day is a great opportunity for parents to get a lot of their shopping done, while the kids are entertained at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre with a pizza lunch, Christmas craft, games in the gymnasium and a splash in the pool.
