For Krystal Schouten, Owner of FamilyLife Fitness, teaching others how to balance fitness goals with family life was not only a career choice but a way of life for this busy mom of two. Operating out of Natural Path Fitness & Nutrition on 111 Sherwood Drive, FamilyLife Fitness specializes in helping busy parents make the time they need to achieve their own fitness goals, from the moment mom gets pregnant to the time that baby reaches toddlerhood and beyond.
Schouten says, “Being active is so important! I started FamilyLife Fitness to make it easier for parents to get out of the house and make fitness part of their lifestyle by including their family. Kids look up to us as parents and when they see you being active they will want to follow in your footsteps.”
Fit mom, Krystal Schouten, has been training for over 10 years, and she’s dedicated almost half of that time to training others. She holds numerous certifications including: CanFit Pro Fitness Instructor, Functional Patterns Level 2 Certified, and Pre/Postnatal Fitness Specialist. She currently teaches four classes a week with the following concentrations:
Fitness With Fetus – Stay active throughout your pregnancy with exercises designed for your growing belly. Focusing on strength and cardio with time at the end of each class for relaxation.
Fitness With Baby – Fitness with Baby offers a total body workout with baby by your side. Focusing on strength and cardio training to help you reach your fitness goals. What to bring? Anything that makes baby happy! (Snacks, toys, blanket to lay down, car seat, stroller, etc.)
Fitness With Tots – Focusing on cardio and play, this workout is designed for parents and toddlers. Be a role model for your little one and show them that exercising is fun. We keep your toddler engaged throughout the whole class!
Fitness With You – Personal Training for your busy family life. Krystal works within your schedule. Training can be done in the comfort of your own home or backyard.
Commenting on her range of classes, Schouten adds, “Even from pregnancy, when baby is in your belly, your movements through exercise release endorphins (the happy hormone), which can ease stress on the growing fetus. From then on, as babies, when they see you exercising they get happy and excited watching your movements, and when they get old enough they will start copying you when you exercise.”
FamilyLife Fitness punch cards are available for purchase at Natural Path Fitness & Nutrition (111 Sherwood Drive – Unit #6). It costs $100 for a 10-class punch card, or $12 per drop-in session. Absolutely all skill levels are welcome, and Schouten provides modifications for each exercise for all fitness levels.
You are getting more than just an exercise class when you sign up for FamilyLife Fitness. Schouten says, “The most rewarding part of my job is seeing parents interact with each other before, during, and after class. FamilyLife Fitness isn’t just about working out, it’s about making friends, exchanging stories about parenthood, knowing that you are not alone and that others around you have all been there or are going through it themselves—the sleepless nights, potty training, feeding, different stages of pregnancy, etc. I’ve seen friendships form and I love that I have given parents this outlet not only to be active, but also to connect with each other.”
