Are you a foodie that’s always on the lookout for a new taste bud tempting event? If so, read on, my friend! On Wednesday, February 7th you’ll want to head over to the lower level of the Market Square Mall at 5:00 p.m. for the 13th Annual Soup Challenge, sponsored by St. Leonard’s Community Services and Scotiabank. This annual Brantford event used to be held at the Best Western, but recent years have seen such exponential growth that they decided to move to a larger venue for this year’s cook-off.
Market Square will definitely provide all the space the vendor’s need to set up shop and serve their delicious soups to Brantford residents and visitors. Vendors are obviously competing for the “Best Tasting Soup” award, but there are also a few other categories where they can take home bragging rights: Best table design/decoration, and most innovative soup.
Be sure to come with a hungry belly because this year there are 18 (yes, 18!) competitors serving up soup, complete with thoughtful accompaniments and garnishes. In past years we’ve seen some extremely creative entries such as chilled fruit soups, creative chowders, and cultural mainstays from around the world. This year shouldn’t be any different, but don’t just take our word for it, come and check it out for yourself! Tickets are $10 in advance, and can be purchased at Scotiabank locations in Brantford. If you wait until last minute, tickets are $12 at the door. Children under 12 are FREE!
This year’s entrants include:
- Al Dente Pasta, Pizza, and Grill
- Alice’s Restaurant
- Angels Diner
- Ben’s Kitchen and Bar
- Blue Dog Coffee Roasters
- Devlin’s Advocate
- Goodness Me!
