Tourism Brantford was pleased to work with the Workforce Planning Board of Grand Erie to support their recent tourism sector research study, “Tourism Sector in the Grand Erie Region”. The purpose of the study was to identify the job opportunities, education needs, skills gaps and human resource challenges that face tourism sector businesses.
Tourism is an important economic driver across the Grand Erie Region, including here in Brantford. Employing approximately 11,800 people in the region, the tourism industry is diverse and employs workers of all ages in occupations across a wide range of sectors such as accommodations, food services, transportation, arts, recreation, entertainment, retail, and more. The Workforce Planning Board used local data and employer outreach to identify viable tourism career opportunities, the training needed and if the training is available locally. They also looked at how businesses are attracting and retaining workers to understand what supports they may need as their staff and business grow.
