The buttertart – the quintessential pioneer Canadian dessert recipe that brings us such pride – is so delicious that it’s time to be celebrated!
Organized by All Canadian Events, the Great Canadian Buttertart Festival is coming to the Paris Fairgrounds on Saturday, October 13. From 10am to 4:30pm, bakers will come from across the country to compete for the title of Canada’s Best Buttertart.
Do you love the classic, gooey, sugary recipe in flaky pie crust, or do you prefer raisins or pecans? Or are you even more adventurous, and love chocolate, apples, and even pumpkin spice flavours? You might even be in the mood to try buttertart filled cannolis and buttertart cake pops!
Immerse yourself in a celebration of all things Canada as the Great Canadian Buttertart Festival celebrates this traditional Canadian treat.
Did you know? The earliest published Canadian recipe for the buttertart dates back to 1900. The recipe, submitted by Mrs. Mary Ethel MacLeod, was submitted to the Women’s Auxiliary of the Royal Victoria Hospital Cookbook.
