It’s coming! The time is nearly here for hockey players to converge in Brantford for the annual Wayne Gretzky International Hockey Tournament. Now 49 years strong, the event is always very well attended and runs from December 27th to 30th. With a wide variety of divisions; teams can take their shot at scoring in many different levels. The participants come from near and far with most from Canada. There are also hockey players entered from the U.S., and this year, the tournament welcomes teams representing Norway and Finland. For many, playing in this tournament has become their end of the year tradition.

Not only is this tournament great for hockey lovers but it also supports the local community. With 2,286 players, along with their family and friends, this tournament has always created an enormous economic spin-off to the community with the amount of revenue coming into the community by visiting teams and their families. The ripple effect of this tournament goes beyond the ice surface rentals and hotel stays but expands into restaurants, gas and shopping.
Attendees of the event will be treated to a performance of the national anthem sung by singer/songwriter from Brantford, Em Jordan. And, as always, keep your eyes open to see not only Brantford’s Hockey Dad, but Canada’s Hockey Dad – Walter Gretzky. He is such a great asset to the community and really takes the time to make each and every person feel special when they get a chance to speak with him.
