On September 21, 2019 the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks Men’s Varsity basketball team will descend on the Hawk Dome at the Laurier Brantford YMCA (100 Water St.) for the first varsity basketball action ever seen in Brantford.
With Wilfrid Laurier University being a huge part of Brantford’s downtown core, the showcase presents a great opportunity for an event that bridges the gap between the students and the community. This event will feature the best Laurier men’s basketball team in decades coming off one of their most successful seasons in the school's history. The 2018-2019 team made the Ontario University Athletics’ (OUA) semi-finals for only the third time ever.
Ali Sow, Golden Haw guard, set the OUA record last year for points scored in a season. Both Ali Sow and Head Coach Justin Serresse are in Italy this summer representing Canada at the 2019 FISU Games, and the team is 3-0 and Ali has played a key role. In addition, Coach Serresse just returned from Benin where he worked with Ian Mahinmi of the Washington Wizards on an international camp.
The game will start at 4:00 p.m., but feel free to swing by earlier to grab some amazing BBQ lunch in Harmony Square at 1:30 p.m. to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Wilfrid Laurier University in Brantford (registration required). There will also be a post-game party at Devlin’s Advocate (93 Dalhousie St.) and any fans wearing purple and gold will receive 15% off of any drink or food purchases.
Come join the Laurier Golden Hawks for a fun, entertaining celebration of the University's presence in our great city. More information about the event can be found on the Laurier Homecoming 2019 website and tickets to the game can be purchased online.
