Wilfrid Laurier University – Brantford Campus is celebrating its 20th Anniversary already, if you can believe it. This year’s homecoming celebration on Saturday, September 21, 2019 will be bigger and better than ever in honour of its 20th Birthday.
The Brantford campus has contributed, in large part, to the transformation of the City of Brantford downtown core. Wilfrid Laurier University has a thriving student community in downtown Brantford and is home to around 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The University started in 1999 with just 1 building, and now boasts over 20 buildings interwoven throughout the City’s downtown, including the brand new Laurier Brantford YMCA and the 330,000 square feet One Market (formerly known as Market Square).
This year’s homecoming event is the kickoff to the year-long celebration of the campus’ 20 year reign in downtown Brantford. The theme is fittingly “Party Like it’s 1999” and will be held in Harmony Square (89 Dalhousie St.) on Saturday, September 21, 2019 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event is open to students, alumni, faculty, staff and the public. The event is in celebration of the school’s 20th anniversary and gives thanks to the community’s impact on this growing campus. Come out and enjoy a barbecue with beer garden, zumba, live DJ, and Kid’s Zone. DJ Roger That will be playing all your favourite hits from 1999 to today. Visit the Wilfrid Laurier website to register for this free event.
Brantford will also be hosting its first ever varsity basketball showcase. The tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m., with tickets $8 in advance or $10 at the door. The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s basketball team is coming off its winningest season in its history and is returning a team that should contend for an OUA title. Don’t miss this special showcase in the stunning Laurier Brantford YMCA Hawk Dome. Find out more about the Golden Hawks basketball showcase in this blog.
Keep the party going at Devlin’s Advocate, located inside Harmony Square, immediately following the basketball game. Open until midnight with no cover charge, Devlin’s is the perfect spot to enjoy post-game food and drinks. A 15% discount will be applied to food items for all fans wearing purple and gold! Registration is requested.
