The city of Brantford and its surrounding communities have a long history of sporting excellence. From athletes who have achieved successes on the world stage to those that work in the background and help build sport programs, the Brantford and Area Sports Hall of Recognition is proud to recognize the achievements of those who have contributed to local sports heritage.
Nominations are currently being accepted for next year’s program until September 1, 2019 in the following categories:
In previous years, the Sports Hall has recognized: Kevin Sullivan in distance running, the Summerhayes family (Terry, Gary & John) in boxing, Jo-Ann Rizzo for curling, Julie Howard in swimming, the Brantford Blast Sr A hockey team, the Brantford Braves baseball team and hockey legends Syl Apps, Pat Hickey and Doug Jarvis as well as The Great One himself Wayne Gretzky and his equally great father Walter Gretzky. Also included are journalist Ted Beare, announcer Arnold Anderson and community supporter Roger Davis.
The Sports Hall is a vast source of excellence in local sports history. Located inside the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre, the Sports Hall consists of interactive Inductee Touchscreen Wall of Recognition, Individual Sports Displays, Trivia Game, Broadcast Booth, Mini Theatre and Special Tribute area for Wayne Gretzky and his family.
Online nomination forms or printable PDFs can be found on the Brantford and Area Sports Hall of Recognition website. Applications will be reviewed by the Sports Hall Selection Committee for consideration of formal induction into the Hall in June 2020.
