The stores are busy stocking their shelves with cute new school supplies and seasonal attire, but kids are protesting, “wait just a minute! We still have half of the summer left!” And they are correct. There’s plenty of time left to soak up the sun and enjoy going to bed late, sleeping in, pool parties and fun outdoor activities. Here’s a handful of things to add to your “Summer To-Do List” that you don’t have to leave the City to do and that won’t break the bank either!

Earl Haig Family Fun Park

Earl Haig Family Fun Park is a fun place for families and children of all ages, located conveniently in the centre of Brantford. The park offers a wide variety of water attractions, including a splash pad, swimming pool, waterslide and lazy river. It also offers other fun activities including batting cages, mini putt, picnic areas and a snack shack. Movies in the Square

Bring your lawn chair and join us for pre-show activities and a movie on the big screen every Thursday evening starting at dusk. Popcorn and sweet treats will also be for sale. Follow Harmony Square on Facebook and answer their weekly trivia poll. Winners will receive VIP treatment that includes pop, popcorn, and a front row seat in a Muskoka chair. Upcoming movies include Incredibles 2 (August 8), Ralph Breaks the Internet (August 15), The Secret Life of Pets 2 (August 22), and Dumbo (August 29). Mohawk Park

The best playground and splash pad in the City can be found at Mohawk Park. With loads of sun, shade, benches and picnic tables, this is the perfect spot to kick back and relax, while your kids dance through the Sprinklemania splash pad. Mohawk Park offers beautiful views of The Grand River, disc golf, and a snack bar open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. It’s the perfect place to escape to on these hot summer days. Brantford Rotary Bike Park

The Brantford Rotary Bike Park is a safe space for novices and professionals of all ages to practice their skills. It includes a series of jumps and ramps that allow for safe skill progression. With beginner, intermediate and expert lines, cyclists are able to build on their abilities while getting more air on the bike to do tricks. The pump track allows for a full body workout that also improves rider efficiency. The 2019 Cycling in Ontario Guide says, “The Brantford Rotary Bike Park has been built with expertise, craftsmanship and attention to detail. A full day of fun for riders of all abilities with beginner, intermediate and advanced jumps, trails, pump tracks and a skills area.”

Community Charity Airshow

Enjoy a FREE airshow featuring the Avro Lancaster, Snowbirds, CF-18 Demo, and more! This widely popular event raises funds for two worthwhile charities, the Rotary Club of Brantford and the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, while also entertaining spectators and showcasing the thrill of aviation. While you’re at the Brantford Municipal Airport, don’t forget to grab a bite from the delicious SkyWay Café. While the airshow is only one day, the café is open daily and there’s always plenty of aircrafts to watch take off and land and will leave your children mesmerized. It’s also an inexpensive way to spend a morning or afternoon—just bring a picnic blanket or some chairs and lay out on the grass and watch the planes fly above you.

Brantford Twin Valley Zoo

Located in the County of Brant, the Brantford Twin Valley Zoo is built on 25 beautiful acres and is a great place to observe a collection of native and exotic animals maintained in natural surroundings. Learn about the animals’ adaptations, needs, and characteristics and experience animals close-up through your own exploration or educational presentations. You’ll see lions and tigers and bears (oh my!) and many more exciting animals. Pack a lunch and stay for the day!

Paris Fair

Don’t let your summer end without participating in one of the Top 100 Festivals and Events in Ontario! The Paris Fair is a family-friendly five-day extravaganza that has been entertaining and educating visitors of all ages for over 160 years. Admire agriculture displays, home craft exhibits and take in the tastes, smells and sounds of the midway. Paris Fair tickets are sold locally at the Brantford Visitor & Tourism Centre.
